About The Position

This position is responsible for providing custodial and housekeeping duties in academic buildings owned by Southwest Minnesota State University, specifically the Student Center, Conference Facility, and the McFarland Building. The role involves assisting staff and students by providing resources for cleaning, moving, rearranging, and accommodating requests to ensure the proper functioning of occupied physical areas. Additionally, the position contributes to maintaining a safe and secure environment, performing minor repairs, and reporting major repairs, vandalism, or damage to the supervisor. This is a night position, working Tuesday through Saturday, and is considered weather essential.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering and appropriate maintenance/cleaning methods, materials, agents, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents (disinfectants, glass cleaner, soaps) sufficient for safe selection, handling, application, and disposal.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance, sufficient for effective and safe operation and minor repairs.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written assignments.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.
  • Ability to keep simple records.
  • Sufficient physical health and endurance to perform work functions.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of janitorial/custodial techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of physical plant hardware use and operation.
  • Ability to make minor repairs, adjustments, and provide preventive and routine maintenance on hardware, cleaning equipment, furniture, and room accessories.

  • Ability to appear for work and complete tasks within established timelines.
  • Occasionally required to work overtime.
