About The Position

The General Maintenance Worker assists the General Maintenance Supervisor in the general upkeep and maintenance of all buildings. Essential Functions: Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College’s vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Plant and Facilities Operations Department. Practice superior customer service. Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications. Attend work timely and on a regular basis during the established hours of operation; work additional hours as business necessitates.

Requirements

  • Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Proficiency with the following, but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
  • Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience in hardware & maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of drywall installation, general painting and carpentry methods, tools and materials.
  • Two years’ experience with electrical repair.
  • Two years’ experience in general maintenance.
  • Ability to satisfy, within the parameters set by the College and consistent with applicable federal, state and local laws, a criminal background check as a condition of employment.
  • Valid Missouri Class E driver’s license or ability to attain one.
  • Must meet and maintain requirements as an approved driver for Columbia College.
  • Ability to move and lift minimum 50 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Painting, including preparation and clean-up.
  • Install ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.
  • Install or hang items such as window shades, blinds, curtain rods, ceiling fans, light fixtures and bulbs, door locks and pictures.
  • Move and install furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Assist with installation and finish drywall and light carpentry work.
  • Assist with minor electrical work associated with repair and replacement of all types of lighting.
  • Assist with snow removal.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned
