About The Position

The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, and electrical work. This role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various building systems including chillers, HVAC equipment, boilers, domestic water and plumbing systems, and electrical systems. Responsibilities also include performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery, and upkeep of concrete and asphalt roads, parking lots, and sidewalks.

Requirements

2 years recent experience (within past 5 years) in building operations, repair, and maintenance or in an occupation such as a general mechanic, maintenance electrician, maintenance plumber, etc.
Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong organizational skills
Ability to multi-task
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail applications
Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assignments
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to work independently
Ability to effectively utilize available resources to maximize productivity
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

Maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing: chillers and chilled water systems; building HVAC equipment; boilers and hot water heating systems; domestic water and plumbing systems; electrical systems including lighting, motors, starters, contractors, etc.
Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
Using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets
Painting structures and equipment
Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles
Hanging doors and installing door locks
Replacing broken window panes
Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery
Maintenance of Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Maintenance of concrete and asphalt roads, parking lots and sidewalks.
Other duties as assigned.
