General Maintenance Worker - On-Call

About The Position

Provides on-call after-hours general maintenance response to service calls at the MCAS Miramar Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQs), and may perform additional general maintenance duties assigned by the supervisor. The position is located onsite in San Diego, California. Typical monthly coverage includes two weekday shifts and one or two weekend shifts, depending on the rotation. Weekday shifts begin at 4:00 p.m. and end the following morning; weekend coverage begins Friday at 4:00 p.m. and ends Monday morning. The worker must respond to service calls within one hour.

Requirements

Hands-on experience with various hand tools and power tools, including knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations, and safety factors.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Ability to deal with a variety of people professionally and courteously in diverse situations.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident alien.
Valid state driver's license and excellent driving record; must provide a current driving record.

Nice To Haves

Formal training through an apprenticeship or vocational school.

Responsibilities

Pick up the on-call phone from the BEQ office at the start of the shift at 4:00 p.m.
Respond within one hour to general maintenance service calls for plumbing, HVAC, lock battery replacements, lighting, pest issues, and other general bachelor-quarter housing concerns.
Allow one hour for equipment pickup and one hour for equipment drop-off when responding to a call.
Follow established safety procedures and use protective equipment and clothing appropriate to the trade and task.
Maintain proper housekeeping practices.
Perform duties in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Perform other general maintenance duties assigned by the supervisor.
