About The Position

This position is responsible for maintaining athletic fields and grounds, conducting routine operational and preventive maintenance checks on gas- and diesel-powered equipment, and performing various maintenance duties. The role involves working with a variety of equipment and in different environments, including indoors and outdoors, and requires adherence to safety and district guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 5 years’ work experience in a similar and/or related field required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to contractors, staff, and other employees of CCPS.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram forms and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Valid Maryland driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and school faculty.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
  • A willingness to take such additional training as required to successfully perform assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains athletic fields and grounds.
  • Conducts basic routine operational and preventive maintenance checks related to maintenance and repair of gas- and diesel-powered equipment, including inspecting, testing, cleaning, lubricating, and, as necessary, repairing or replacing defective parts.
  • Performs maintenance duties such as grounds maintenance and mowing, painting, carpentry, plumbing, welding, and filter changing.
  • Works from step and extension ladders, scaffolds, man lifts, scissors lifts, aerial boom lifts, and bucket trucks.
  • Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local, and Board of Education guidelines.
  • Loads and tows equipment trailers.
  • Operates commercial and agricultural tractors, lawn equipment, backhoe, excavators, and skid steer.
  • Operates various types of mechanical equipment.
  • Uses smartphone, tablet, and laptop to access and enter information required for the maintenance work order system and time keeping.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Foreman.
