About The Position

The General Maintenance Technician (GMT) is responsible for performing a range of preventive maintenance services and general shop support in a fast-paced automotive environment. This role focuses on high-volume, entry-to-intermediate services and is compensated with an hourly rate plus a Billed Hours Bonus (BHB) tied to weekly production. The GMT plays an important role in shop throughput, team support, and delivering a consistent, high-quality experience to every customer.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) to twelve (12) months of automotive service experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform oil changes, tire services, and basic maintenance independently.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to mount, balance, and install tires within 45 minutes.
  • Intermediate mechanical and maintenance skills; ability to complete assigned services efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to operate common automotive service tools and shop equipment.
  • Production mindset: motivated to build billed hours and meet weekly BHB targets.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to continue learning, complete required training, and advance toward Senior or Master Technician levels.
  • Basic computer literacy for DVI and shop management system use.

Nice To Haves

  • Missouri State Vehicle Inspector’s License.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications (A4, A5, or equivalent preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance services including oil and fluid changes, tire rotations, tire installations and balancing, battery installations, and wiper/headlight replacements.
  • Complete digital vehicle inspections (DVIs), documenting findings with notes and photos in the shop management system.
  • Conduct Missouri State Vehicle Inspections and warranty checks as certified and directed.
  • Track personal billed hours weekly; maintain awareness of BHB tier targets and production goals.
  • Assist Master and Senior Technicians with repair tasks, parts staging, and shop workflow as needed.
  • Transport customer vehicles to and from sublet shops; shuttle customers as needed.
  • Pick up and deliver parts from local warehouses and vendors.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels, organize stockrooms, and report supply needs to the Store Manager.
  • Keep workstations and shared shop areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
  • Attend team meetings and participate in on-the-job and formal training sessions.
  • Produce accurate, legible documentation of all services performed.
