Requirements

  • Ability to work with your hands and experience with use of tools is required.
  • Technical College Program, electronics based preferred, or equivalent experience required.
  • Applying technical training and experience, to think outside the box when no prescribed fix is available.
  • Experience with diagnosing mechanical, hardware, and software failures on multiple types of patient related healthcare/hospital equipment.
  • Experience with mechanical aptitude is required.
  • Must be able to read and write English.
  • Demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.
  • Able to lift 40 - 60 lbs.
  • Able to walk significant distance per day
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record.
  • Computer literacy in order to work with CMMS and Real Time Locating Software systems.
  • Basic Microsoft Excel knowledge required.
  • Good communications skills with all levels of staff is essential.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment is essential.
  • Demonstrates being a team player; interacts positively with co-workers, physicians, volunteers, patients and their families in a way that demonstrates that everyone involved in patient care is valuable.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with patients and working in patient rooms.

  • Experience with TMS software is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, calibrate and maintain in-scope hospital equipment to ensure it is operating safely, effectively and efficiently (eg. beds, stretchers, specialty wheelchairs, food services carts, bedside tables, etc.).
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on patient beds, stretchers, transport chairs, air purifiers, designated therapy equipment and designated food service carts.
  • Includes function and ground fault tests, visual checks, cleaning and lubricating, test run and fastening or tightening, use of hand tools, power tools and electrical tester.
  • Troubleshooting errors to find root cause
  • Decision making on internal or external repair requirements
  • Risk assessments on equipment usability.
  • Make recommendations to management regarding the cost vs life expectancy for repairs.
  • Document all preventative maintenance work, checklists, time & materials in the CMMS.
  • Perform administrative functions in MobileView (RTLS Software) for updating battery life on designated RTLS tags.
  • Locating of equipment in collaboration with the EAM Coordinator.
  • Movement of equipment between patient area and workshop in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Communication with external vendors for troubleshooting.
  • Demand repairs on all Hospital maintained equipment and furniture, not covered by Biomed or a Service Contract that need broken parts replaced, repaired or adjusted. Equipment includes, but not limited to, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, furniture, over bed tables, fridge/freezers, enclosed carts, general carts, monitor arms, task chairs, desks, etc.
  • Identifying risk level for demand work orders on equipment and furniture.
  • Use of powered, mechanical and hand tools.
  • Reading repair manuals/instructions is necessary.
  • Escalation to Maintenance Coordinator for service calls when items cannot be repaired in house.
  • Make recommendations to management regarding the cost vs life expectancy for repairs.
  • Communication with external vendors for troubleshooting.
  • Document all demand maintenance work, checklists, time & materials in the CMMS.
  • Ordering parts for broken, worn out or missing pieces of equipment.
  • Ordering hardware such as screws, mechanical screws, washers, nuts and bolts, etc.
  • Monitoring and maintaining stock part inventory levels such as, casters, mattresses, bushels, bearings, etc.
  • Documenting receipt of parts upon delivery within CMMS/Parts tracking document.
  • Ongoing organization of stock parts to ensure easy locating and identification of stock level.
  • Installation of new furniture accessories, such as keyboard trays, monitor arms and CPU holders.
  • Assembling of new equipment such as, shelves, bed accessories, carts, furniture accessories.
  • Ability to read and follow maintenance/assembly checklists and instructions is necessary.
