About The Position

WinnCompanies is searching for an adaptable and dependable General Maintenance Technician - HVAC Specialist I to join our military housing team located at Fort Hood, TX. In this role, you will perform maintenance functions in the community, including rental units, office buildings, residential areas, grounds, and parking lots. The ideal candidate will also ensure that all service is performed safely and results in favorable customer feedback. Please note that this position is located at a federal facility. In accordance with the REAL ID Act, effective May 7, 2025, a REAL ID compliant driver's license/ID is required in order to access the federal facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Less than 1 year/1-3 years of HVAC experience.
  • A current driver's license in good standing and ability to meet the driving records standards outlined in the Company Safe Vehicular Operations Policy.
  • Current HVAC license.
  • EPA certification.
  • Proficiency in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, flooring, or appliances.
  • Ability to provide basic tools and equipment necessary to perform daily duties.
  • Solid customer service skills.
  • Basic familiarity with computers and web-based applications.
  • Ability to read and write in English, in order to understand basic instructions and take direction from supervisors.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, diagnose, repair, and complete advanced troubleshooting to include all components and replacement of HVAC systems and parts.
  • Diagnose HVAC issues, such as no heat or no air.
  • Understand pressures and system capabilities, including freon.
  • Replace commonly-used parts in HVAC systems.
  • Assist with replacement of full HVAC systems.
  • Respond to service calls related to residential maintenance, such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and appliances.
  • Complete service calls/Change of Occupancy Maintenance work.
  • Complete repairs as directed by immediate supervisor or other organization management representatives.
  • Transport, install, and connect stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, and other electrical and gas appliances.
  • Load and unload trucks and other conveyances; move supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrows or hand trucks; stack materials for storage or binning; collect refuse and salvageable materials.
  • Transport equipment, furnishings, and appliances to job sites, load and unload trucks.
  • Respond to and complete on-call after hours emergency and urgent repairs.
  • Operate power tools and power equipment.
  • Repair and fabricate window and door screens and frames.
  • Dig, fill and tamp earth excavations; level grounds using pick, shovel, tamper and rake; shovel concrete; clean culverts and ditches; cut tree and brush; operate power tools and lawn mowers.
  • Remove floor tile, sheet vinyl, ceramic floor tile and plywood. Remove damaged drywall.
  • Operate power blowers or use brooms to clean rooftops, sidewalks and driveways of leaves and debris. Ensure work-site clean up.
  • Update work order status, including time, materials, and notes on mobile devices provided.
  • Keep supervisor well-informed of activities, results, and potential problems, while recommending corrective actions to supervisor.
  • Maintain vehicle and vehicle inventory as prescribed.
  • Work cooperatively and conduct oneself professionally when in contact with customers, staff, contractors, and the public.
