About The Position

Under general supervision, this position directs the activities of maintenance personnel and/or crews responsible for performing general maintenance work on City buildings, facilities, and grounds. The purpose of the General Maintenance Supervisor II position is to supervise the North servicing crews that perform specialized maintenance and grounds keeping tasks in and around Austin Parks and Recreation parkland and recreation centers.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus five (5) years of experience in general building and construction work, two years of which were in a lead/supervisory capacity.
  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Knowledge of Local ordinances and building codes.
  • Knowledge of general characteristics of facilities, machinery, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of tools, materials, methods, and procedures used in building maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of proper safety practices, procedures, and regulations applicable to work being performed.
  • Skill in evaluating needs for routine and/or emergency maintenance and repairs.
  • Skill in establishing work priorities.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment, a valid Texas driver's license.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience in janitorial services including cleaning parks and outdoor facilities with the ability to prioritize high-impact areas such as restrooms, pavilions, and high-use zones.
  • Direct experience completing work logs, checklists, and incident reports.
  • Direct experience creating and managing efficient work route plans.
  • Direct experience in the procurement of supplies, managing inventory, and budget oversight.
  • Direct experience working with the public and stakeholder groups to resolve conflicts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).
  • Proficiency in utilizing a work order system, addressing personnel and employee grievances, and generating associated reports.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects construction and construction sites for compliance with codes, specifications, safety ordinances, etc.; enforces safety rules.
  • Assists in developing operating budget for division. Orders and issue supplies, parts, etc.
  • Develops and revises operating procedures.
  • Trains personnel in performance of job tasks; develops work schedule; assigns job duties and monitors task completion; and reviews work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Reads profiles and blueprints; inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, and recommendation for dismissal.
