About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Facility Engineering, the General Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the building, grounds, and physical plant to ensure a safe and efficient environment for patients, visitors, and employees. This role performs maintenance tasks essential to the smooth operation of Arnot Health and relevant to employee experience and competency, including but not limited to moves, deliveries, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, sheet metal, and welding. The position also involves providing assistance to higher classifications to gain experience and increase competency in all skills. Entry into this position requires skill and competency level testing.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Passes MECH Entry level test.
  • Some maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works across trades as required to complete assigned tasks and meet Arnot Health and departmental goals.
  • Performs day-to-day routine repairs and preventative maintenance on all Arnot Health equipment, including vehicles, beds, laundry equipment, furniture, carts, chairs, air handlers, fans, pumps, lights, walls, ceilings, sinks, urinals, and toilets, which may include electrical repair or troubleshooting.
  • Advises area managers or department heads of the status of jobs if work becomes interrupted, delayed, or problematic, and informs them when work is completed.
  • Installs and repairs Arnot Health systems within various specialty fields, such as electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and general structure components like walls, roofs, ceilings, and floors.
  • Maintains equipment in good condition, including vehicles, all hand tools, some power tools, ladders, instrumentation, and scaffolding.
  • Ensures work areas are left in a clean and safe condition, with tools and equipment secured properly at the end of the work shift.
  • Trains in the operations, adjustments, repairs, and recording of performance and operation of all machinery and auxiliary equipment in the power plant and mechanical rooms throughout Arnot Health buildings.
  • Demonstrates initiative to respond to conditions that may lead to an emergency and calls supervisor when necessary.
  • Prepares areas for painting and performs painting and preparation as required.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures relevant to the job, department, and external regulatory bodies, or obtains approval for exception.
  • Attends all annual mandatory educational programs as required by the position.
  • Understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to their needs, and maintaining communication to provide a secure and pleasant experience.
