About The Position

The General Maintenance Mechanical Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for providing leadership and daily direction for the ETSU Mechanical Shop while also performing hands-on maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and installation work on campus mechanical systems. This position assists the MEP Supervisor within the Mechanical Shop and helps coordinate the daily work of mechanical maintenance staff. This position helps oversee and perform work involving HVAC equipment, plumbing systems, pumps, motors, steam systems, chilled water systems, hot water systems, air handlers, exhaust systems, and other building mechanical equipment. The supervisor assists with assigning and prioritizing work orders and repairs to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with university standards. As a working supervisor, this role provides field support, technical guidance, and hands-on assistance to shop personnel when troubleshooting mechanical issues or completing repairs. The position also helps identify equipment issues, coordinate materials and parts, and communicate with other Facilities staff, vendors, and university personnel as needed. This position plays an important role in maintaining reliable building operations, supporting campus comfort, and helping ensure ETSU mechanical systems remain safe, efficient, and operational.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must possess or acquire within the first six months of employment the EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in carpentry, masonry, painting, wall finishes, and general renovation work.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices in the performance of work.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate situations associated with tasks assigned.
  • Knowledge of how to apply various paints and associated products to a variety of surfaces.
  • Ability to distinguish colors.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment used in the performance of tasks, including, but not limited to, paint mixers, saws, hand tools, and paint sprayers.
  • Ability to operate vehicles during incumbency in a safe manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and possess interpersonal skills for working with staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, lift 80 lbs, enter cramped areas, and climb ladders.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of two years of on-the-job experience
  • Five years of experience as a journeyman or equivalent experience
