About The Position

As the region's only Level II Trauma Center, UPMC Hamot operates around the clock, and our Maintenance team plays a vital role in supporting patient care by ensuring hospital systems, equipment, and facilities remain safe, functional, and reliable. This full-time position requires weekend availability, along with the ability to work independently during overnight hours while responding to a variety of maintenance and facility needs. Requirements

  • Completion of a high school diploma/GED is required.
  • A total of 2 years of general maintenance-related work experience is required.
  • Completion of an Associate's Degree, a Two-year Mechanical or related Trade School program or an Apprenticeship in a Trade.
  • 4 years of general maintenance work experience working in a healthcare or commercial environment is required.
  • Completion of a high school diploma/GED and a Total of 8 years of general maintenance work experience working in a healthcare or commercial environment is required.
  • Military experience considered.
  • Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Completion of a High School Vocational program or Trade School is preferred.
  • Certifications in one or more specific trade is preferred – HVACR, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance work and tasks as directed with minimal supervision.
  • Perform specific preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment.
  • Exhibit a basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry/hardware, mechanical equipment and facilities systems.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, equipment rooms and shop areas.
  • Maintain all written logs pertaining to shift responsibilities, i.e., med gas, equipment room rounds, etc.
  • Maintain water chemistry and testing procedures on equipment and building systems.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of building's direct digital control (DDC) systems.
  • Order materials as needed.
  • Perform all work following infection control procedures.
  • Perform minor carpentry and painting work.
  • Record work orders and submit hours to supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Minor repairs and maintaining of plumbing fixtures, piping systems, plumbing leaks (soldering), defective pipes and clogged drains.
  • Performs general cleaning duties on equipment and in mechanical support areas.
  • Performs required maintenance, repair and inspection of beds.
  • Ability to perform snow removal activities and work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Inspect electrical distribution systems, locate short circuits, loose connectors, worn motor brushes, etc.; inspect fire alarm system and provide first response to all fire alarms.
  • Safely and efficiently operate and maintain all mechanical systems, i.e., steam pressure heating systems, water systems, ventilation systems, refrigeration equipment, etc.; round mechanical equipment and machine rooms in all buildings as assigned.
