About The Position

The General Labourer / Summer Student is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations through safe material handling, facility housekeeping, inventory organization and material preservation activities. This position plays a key role in maintaining efficient material flow throughout the facility while ensuring materials, components and equipment are properly cleaned, protected, stored and maintained to prevent damage, corrosion, contamination or deterioration. The incumbent performs a variety of general labour tasks in support of production, warehouse, shipping, receiving and maintenance functions while adhering to all company health, safety, quality and environmental standards.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1-3 years General Shop experience, preferably in a Manufacturing Environment.
  • Knowledge of basic material preservation, corrosion prevention, and storage practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning tools, hand tools, power tools, rust-removal equipment, and approved preservation materials.
  • Understanding of proper handling, packaging, wrapping, and storage methods for manufactured components and equipment.
  • Ability to recognize conditions that may lead to corrosion, damage, or deterioration of stored materials and components.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, transport, and store incoming materials from receiving areas to designated warehouse or production locations.
  • Retrieve materials, components, and supplies from inventory locations to support manufacturing operations.
  • Move raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods throughout the facility using approved material handling equipment.
  • Maintain organized storage areas and ensure materials are properly identified, protected, and stored.
  • Inspect materials and components for signs of rust, corrosion, contamination, or damage and report concerns to supervision.
  • Clean rust, scale, dirt, and other surface contaminants from materials, components, and equipment using approved methods, tools, and procedures.
  • Apply approved rust-prevention products, protective coatings, wraps, covers, or packaging materials to components designated for storage.
  • Prepare and preserve materials, components, and equipment for short-term and long-term storage to minimize deterioration and maintain product quality.
  • Assist with inventory organization, stock rotation, and storage practices that support material preservation and efficient retrieval.
  • Support Shipping and Receiving activities as required.
