Summer Job - General Labourer (Public Works)
About The Position
This is a summer job position funded through the Government of Canada - Canada Summer Jobs program. The anticipated length of this program is July 2, 2026 - August 28, 2026. Student Workers will perform various duties related to public works maintenance and repair. To be eligible, applicants must meet the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs program, including age (15-30 at the start of the job), Canadian citizenship/permanent residency/refugee status, and legal entitlement to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number. Requirements
- Be between 15 and 30 years old at the start of their summer job
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the job
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of the summer job
Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain sidewalks, streets, roads and public grounds of Mikisew Reserve lands and other areas, working as member of crew
- Sweep debris and remove from streets, sidewalks, building grounds and other areas
- Shovel cement and other materials into cement mixers, spread concrete and asphalt on road surfaces using shovels, rakes and hand tampers, and perform other activities to assist in maintenance and repair of roads
- Dig ditches and trenches using shovels and other hand tool
- Operate jackhammers and drills to break up pavement
- Load and unload trucks with supplies and equipment
- Collect and load materials onto trucks
- Assist equipment operators to secure attachments to equipment or trucks
- Assist in routine maintenance and repair of equipment
- Assist skilled tradespersons such as carpenters, plumbers and mechanics
- General labor duties to be determined
