About The Position

As a General Production team member at Smithfield Foods, you will perform essential production tasks and support coworkers to help deliver safe, high-quality food. You will contribute to a safe and efficient production line and a positive work environment while helping ensure products reach consumers. The role involves processing meat products using hand tools, knives, machinery, and other equipment. It is physically demanding and requires good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work a scheduled shift. Overtime may be required depending on production demands. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Must be able to perform continuous and repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
Must be able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
Must be willing and able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
Must be willing and able to work with a knife if trained.
Must be able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees.
Must be able to work in wet and humid conditions, noisy environments, and around strong smells or odors.
Must be able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, steel-toed safety shoes, and other required personal protective equipment.
Must be able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
Must be able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms.
Must be able to bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout an entire shift and walk long distances.
Some positions may require certification to operate equipment.
Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs, single lifting of objects up to 60 lbs, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
