POSITION SUMMARY: Packaging pretzels into the proper bags or boxes, make sure the bag or box is coded correctly and ensure the packaged material is acceptable to our customers. Hand Tying and Hand Slicing product (pretzels) to meet customers’ expectations, quality expectations and effectively keep the line in motion to limit downtime.

Requirements

Capable of using a digital scale to weigh product.
Capable of understanding units of measure to measure product length.
Capable of standing on feet for periods of 8 hours per shift (excluding breaks/lunches) at an acceptable pace.
Capable of withstanding temperature ranges of 55 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Capable of counting to 130 and demonstrating basic math skills.
Capable of climbing a ladder to an elevated platform of 10 feet to physically un-jam cartons.
Capable of climbing over conveyors via provided bridges to physically un-jam product.
Capable of carrying raw material (boxes, tape, and bags) into the packing room (approx. 50lb boxes of bags, 1lb empty flat boxes).
Capable of lifting 25lb boxes of pretzels from one conveyor to another (approx. 1500 boxes per shift).
Capable of inserting a plastic bag into a carton, opening the bag and draping it over the sides.
Capable of lifting empty box/bag combination to a height of 4 feet and placing it on a skate wheel conveyor.
Capable of reaching over one conveyor (approx. 2 feet) and lifting full box of pretzels toward yourself to apply a twist tie and place it on another conveyor.
Capable of using mechanical taping equipment after instruction.
Capable of using hand taping equipment.
Capable, in the event of mechanical breakdown, of carrying full boxes of product to the hallway (approx. 20 feet away) and palletizing by hand to a height of 6 feet.
Capable of lifting a 12lb box to a height of 7 feet while working in the hand-pack area.
Capable of inserting by hand, pretzels into a hand-pack carton efficiently and smoothly.
Must be trained in Critical Control Points to perform post bake, and packaging testing.
Must be a self-starter and able to accomplish a versatile and evolving workload.
Excellent in all forms of communication.

Responsibilities

Packaging pretzels into the proper bags or boxes, ensuring correct coding and customer acceptability.
Hand tying and hand slicing product to meet customer and quality expectations and keep the line moving.
Weighing raw and packaging products while maintaining product integrity to specifications.
Measuring raw and finished product while maintaining product integrity to specifications.
Performing equipment adjustments when product is out of specifications.
Hand scoring and tying pretzels.
Hand loading pretzels to pans.
Hand loading boards of product onto carts.
Moving racks of pretzels to and from the proofers and retarders.
Putting raw pretzel trays on the tray unloaders.
Scoring the top of pretzels.
Inspecting pretzels throughout the process and removing defects.
Maintaining a sanitary work area.
Carrying raw material (boxes, tape, and bags) into the packing room.
Inserting plastic bags into cartons, opening them, and draping them over the sides.
Lifting empty box/bag combinations to a height of 4 feet and placing them on a skate wheel conveyor.
Reaching over a conveyor and lifting full boxes of pretzels to apply a twist tie to the bag and place it on another conveyor.
Interfacing with managers and other employees, communicating and understanding effectively.
Using mechanical taping equipment.
Using hand taping equipment.
Carrying full boxes of product to the hallway and palletizing by hand to a height of 6 feet in the event of mechanical breakdown.

Working while wearing provided rubber gloves (GMP requirement).
Working while wearing company-provided GMP acceptable hairnets.
Reading instructions for labeling to ensure proper box labeling.
Maintaining area cleanliness during gaps and downtime.
Conducting housekeeping during the first hour of shift start and the last 30 minutes prior to the end of the shift.
Cutting and loading machine with a chunk of dough up to 50 lbs.
Using the correct dough knife and a clean-cut resistant glove.
Performing other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Rotating through different jobs within the area on a maximum weekly basis.
Following and/or implementing/supporting/maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Defense, Food Safety and SQF programs.
