Requirements

  • Must be capable of using digital scale to weigh product
  • Must be capable of understanding units of measure to measure the length of the product.
  • Must be capable of standing on your feet for periods of 8 hours. Per shift, with exceptions of breaks or lunches, and maintain an acceptable pace of operations.
  • Must be capable of withstanding temperature ranges of 55 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Must be capable of counting to 130 and demonstrate basic math skills.
  • Must be capable of climbing a ladder to an elevated platform of 10 feet to physically un-jam cartons.
  • Must be capable of climbing over conveyors via the bridges provided to physically un-jam product at the counters or at bends of the conveyors.
  • Must be capable of carrying raw material (boxes, tape, and bags) into the packing room in order to be utilized by assigned employees. Note: a full box of bags weighing approx. 50lbs and 2 to 3 boxes of bags are used per shift. An empty flat box weighs 1lb and 800 to 1500 are used by an employee per shift.
  • Must be capable of lifting, by hand, a 25lb box of pretzels from one conveyor to another. Note: over the course of the shift approx. 1500 such boxes will have to be moved by any one employee.
  • Must be capable of inserting a plastic bag into a carton, opening the bag and draping it over the sides. Must then be capable of lifting empty box/bag combination to a height of 4 feet and placing it on a skate wheel conveyor.
  • Must be capable of reaching over one conveyor (approx. 2 feet) and lifting full box of pretzels toward yourself in order to physically apply a twist tie to the bag and place it on another conveyor.
  • Must be capable of interfacing with managers and other employees and communicate and understand effectively.
  • Must be capable of using mechanical taping equipment after being instructed.
  • Must be capable of using hand taping equipment as provided.
  • Must be capable, in the event of mechanical breakdown, of carrying full boxes of product to the hallway (approx. 20 feet away and palletizing by hand to a height of 6 feet.
  • Must be capable of lifting a 12lb box to a height of 7 feet while working in the hand-pack area of the packing room. This operation uses 200 to 1500 cases depending upon the type of product running.
  • Must be capable of inserting by hand, pretzels into a hand-pack carton and doing so efficiently and smoothly throughout the course of the shift.
  • Must be capable of working wearing rubber gloves provided by the company. (this is a GMP requirement)
  • Must be capable of working while wearing company provided GMP acceptable hairnets.
  • Must be capable of reading instructions for labeling to ensure the box is labeled properly.
  • Must use the correct dough knife and a clean-cut resistant glove.
  • Must be trained in Critical Control Points to perform post bake, and packaging testing.
  • Employee responsible for Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Defense and SQF Programs.
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to accomplish a versatile and evolving workload.

Responsibilities

  • Packaging pretzels into the proper bags or boxes, make sure the bag or box is coded correctly and ensure the packaged material is acceptable to our customers.
  • Hand Tying and Hand Slicing product (pretzels) to meet customers’ expectations, quality expectations and effectively keep the line in motion to limit downtime.
  • Weighing raw and packaging products maintaining product integrity to product specifications
  • Measuring raw and finished product maintaining product integrity to product specifications
  • Equipment adjustments when product is out of specifications
  • Hand scoring and Tying Pretzels
  • Hand loading pretzels to pans
  • Hand loading boards of product onto carts
  • Moving racks of pretzels to and from the proofers and retarders
  • Putting raw pretzel trays on the tray unloaders
  • Scoring top of pretzels
  • Inspecting pretzels throughout the entire process and removing cripples/defects
  • Maintaining your area in a sanitary condition.

  • Keeping the area clean during Gaps and Downtime.
  • Housekeeping must be conducted with the employees that relieve the line first hour of the shift start and the last 30 minutes prior to end of the shift.
  • Cutting and loading machine with a chunk of dough up to 50 lbs.
  • Using the correct dough knife and a clean-cut resistant glove.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • All employees in this area are responsible for doing each of these jobs and are rotated at a maximum weekly.
  • Responsible for following (and/or implementing/supporting/maintaing) Good Manufacuring Practices, Food Defense, Food Safety and SQF programs.
