Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with one year of trades training and at least one year of related experience; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as bills of material, blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one with other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions.
  • Must possess good mechanical ability and the ability to perform basic calculations to operate welding and fabricating machines.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate a welder, grinder, bandsaw, ironworker, overhead crane, torch, measuring devices, and a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness.
  • Must be willing to work in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect tanks for cosmetic defects.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Remove all weld spatter, burs, and rust from pressure vessels using a scraper, chisel, hammer, or sander.
  • Sand any repair areas and attachments of pressure vessels.
  • Wipe the vessel with cleaner and remove stickers if the vessel is to be shipped without paint.
  • Remove rough spots from work pieces using a portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  • Strip materials using steel shot, grit, Aluminum Oxide, or other agents.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and finishing specifications as they relate to finishing Steel Fab products.
  • Blast exterior of product to specific profiles.
  • Proper usage and maintenance of respiratory equipment.
  • Replenish the abrasive hopper when necessary.
  • Remove exhausted blasting agent from blasting room.
  • Use various safety equipment related to blasting applications.
  • Material handling – safe operation of cranes, hoists, and forklifts as needed, and successfully complete any training/safety program relating to the operation of the equipment.
  • Properly complete applicable paperwork associated with this classification.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with all safety and environmental requirements regarding blasting agents, their application, and disposal.
  • Maintain a clean and neat work area.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Choose hazardous waste containers.
  • Mark or label containers.
  • Handle or move waste or waste containers.
  • Inspect containers.
  • Operate a waste-generating process.
  • Manage waste in satellite areas.
  • Read and apply Federal or state hazardous waste regulations.
