About The Position

The County Materials Family of Companies manufactures and delivers concrete construction products to meet the demand for growing communities. We’re seeking a General Laborer/Yard Team Member to join our Sample Department to support the Landscape & Masonry Division at County Materials Corporation in Madison, WI. The Yard Team Member supports daily concrete plant and yard operations by maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient plant yard. This role is responsible for material handling, including loading and unloading aggregates, cement, and construction supplies, guiding truck and equipment traffic, and ensuring all yard equipment, tools, and work areas are clean, functional, and operational. The Yard Team Member works closely with plant operators, truck drivers, and maintenance teams to support on-time concrete production while complying with all safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Familiarity with construction, concrete, or industrial operations a plus
  • Understanding of basic material handling and equipment operation
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Self‑motivated, dependable, and flexible to meet operational needs
  • Safety‑minded with the ability to follow instructions and procedures
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, or handling materials/equipment.
  • Occasional climbing, kneeling, crawling, or lifting/moving up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to concentrate, follow detailed instructions, communicate effectively, and safely perform job duties.
  • May require the operation of specific tools, equipment, or vehicles associated with the position.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, package, and ship samples, partial pallets, pavers, blocks, literature, and miscellaneous sample products.
  • Coordinate shipping logistics by obtaining shipment weights/dimensions and working with shipping and trucking departments.
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness, safety, and equipment upkeep within the sample area, including forklift care.
  • Assist with inventory tracking, stock monitoring, reordering supplies, and communicating sample/product needs to the team.
  • Produce and label sample materials such as display hand panels, Grand Discover bags, and customer-requested labels.
  • Ensure quality control by inspecting samples for accuracy, defects, and proper manufacturing before shipment.
  • Complete tasks efficiently and on schedule while supporting special requests, customer inquiries, and continuous process improvements.
  • Operate equipment to load, stack, and retrieve materials and supplies
  • Assist with aggregate, cement, and material handling
  • Monitor, document, and maintain inventory levels
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard and equipment area
  • Exercise sound judgment during unloading and yard operations
  • Guide truck traffic and support safe movement of vehicles
  • Follow all OSHA, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support plant operations
