About The Position
This role involves a variety of manual labor tasks in a scrap metal yard environment. Responsibilities include material handling, unpacking, disassembling equipment, working with recycling machinery, light facility maintenance, landscaping, and ensuring a clean and safe work area. The job requires regular attendance, punctuality, and adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
Requirements
- Must pass a medical physical and drug test
- Must pass a background check
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
- Ability to understand direction (written or oral)
- Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands
- Willingness to learn how to sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights
- Willingness to learn how to properly maintain equipment
- Willingness to learn how to properly utilize PPE
- Regular attendance and punctuality
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable
- Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills
Responsibilities
- Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles
- Material handling and sorting (pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, filling hoppers, boxes, and conveyor belts)
- Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating packaging materials
- Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torqueing pipefittings, removing bolts, automobile parts, and appliance parts
- Working with recycling equipment for processing metal product (metal shears, band saw, wire strippers)
- Directing traffic of yard vehicles
- Light facility maintenance (painting, scraping, moving furniture and equipment)
- Assisting with machinery repair by pulling and installing parts
- Housekeeping (sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, debris collection)
- Periodic landscaping work
- Cleaning up work area at the end of shift
- Keeping work areas neat and orderly
- Organizing materials for effective space utilization
- Disposing of waste materials appropriately
- Inspection to ensure cleanup is completed
- Maintaining effective housekeeping for safety and hygiene
