About The Position

Farmers Union Industries, LLC, also known as FUI, is a leading agricultural-based manufacturing company. Performance Pet, located in Mitchell, SD, works with brands both large and small to create an assortment of canned dog and cat foods. We are currently accepting applications for General Labor (Chubbs, 2nd Shift). We offer a starting base wage of $19.40/Hr. along with regular increases and a benefits package.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass in-house Pallet Jack Certification and operate equipment safely
  • Ability to accurately count and complete basic math operations with a calculator; read a scale and understand weights
  • Ability to communicate and accurately and legibly record information
  • Read and comprehend signs, labels, warnings, formulas, and company SOPs in English or Spanish
  • Ability to work in a facility that processes multiple proteins including beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish, lamb, rabbit, kangaroo, and egg
  • Perform safety sensitive position
  • Must be 18 years of age or older for insurance purposes
  • Consistently and repetitively lift up to 60 pounds
  • Stand up to 100% of the workday
  • Frequently climb steps and/or ladders up to 10 feet and perform duties on an elevated surface
  • Frequently walk and bend at the knees and/or waist
  • Ability to tolerate varying environmental conditions including wet slippery conditions or extreme hot

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred
  • Canning experience, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment for production by calibrating scales and assembling augers
  • Weigh out raw materials/ingredients according to provided formulas
  • Stack and wrap all the batched ingredients onto pallets and use a pallet jack to bring ingredients to the production line; notify Material Handlers if forklift assistance is needed
  • Unpack meat ingredients and load into grinding and processing equipment
  • Complete manual rework projects such as sorting cans, removing/updating date codes, and traying cans; dispose of poor-quality products, when necessary
  • Clean production equipment and work area by sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, pressing washing, squeegeeing, and scrubbing
  • Cross-train in other areas of production to provide back-up support, as needed; train others on your knowledge of area
  • Keep Shift Supervisor aware of any downtime, concerns, or issues that arise
  • Follow all company safety policies, practices, procedures, and improvement initiatives
  • Comply with all regulatory compliance requirements including environmental and food safety
  • Maintain regular and predictable on-site attendance
