About The Position

The General Interest Instructor - Education instructs and leads a variety of educational classes, approved by the Sr Recreation Coordinator of Education, to community members. The position also manages people safely in indoor and outdoor environments. Requirements

  • Ability to thoroughly follow directions furnished in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and patiently, especially with older adults.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and participants.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Organized.
  • Strong, positive customer service skills.
  • Strong understanding of technology, not limited to cell phones, GPS locators, and email.
  • High school degree or GED.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to handle emergency situations including - the ability to make quick, decisive, and safe actions; communicate calmly, and de-escalate tensions and stress.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with participants, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate classes content and demonstrates competency in teaching.
  • Communicates clearly with coordinator and community members
  • Informs supervisor of any safety concerns regarding facility, equipment, or participants.
  • Inform supervisor of conditions and needed supplies.
  • Manages people safely in indoor and outdoor environments.
