About The Position

The General Foreperson coordinates crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies in order to complete all jobs efficiently, correctly, and profitably. This is a full-time position with benefits and overtime may be required. Essential Functions include always following and enforcing safe practices and rules, keeping utility company representatives informed, establishing and monitoring systems for equipment maintenance and cleanliness, prompt dispatch of crews, teaching and ensuring compliance with safety regulations, instructing employees on equipment operation and material use, ensuring first aid equipment is available, assisting with accident reports and investigations, hiring, training, and disciplining employees, determining workable hours and approving time submitted, minimizing non-chargeable hours and overtime, maintaining good morale and handling grievances, studying and determining the most efficient way to handle each job, controlling productivity, ensuring sufficient materials and equipment, accounting for all tools and supplies, storing equipment and materials safely, knowing operating conditions of all equipment and scheduling maintenance, knowing proper equipment operation and ensuring correct equipment usage, ensuring drivers have proper cards and are approved to drive, and ensuring employees have proper certifications and qualifications. The General Foreperson also performs duties for storm work as needed. The General Foreperson has all crew positions as direct reports.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years previous professional experience as a General Foreperson in line clearance or vegetation management.
  • Driver's license.
  • At least 2-3 years’ prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
  • Previous experience as a General Foreperson preferred.
  • Must be able to supervise the performance of individual employees and various crews’ performance.
  • Must be able to delegate work and take accountability for the performance of a crew.
  • Must maintain a professional and effective relationship with employees, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be able to meet and demonstrate qualifications of all positions on a crew.
  • Must be able to travel throughout the week to assigned crew locations.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Must have and maintain a Driver’s License and be able to safely drive a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPR.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with others.
  • Must be able to travel out of town for storm restoration work when needed.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen as required for this job.
  • Must meet I-9 requirements.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies to complete jobs efficiently, correctly, and profitably.

  • Assist in filling out accident reports promptly and completely when needed and investigate cause(s) of accidents.
  • Hire, train, and discipline employees.
  • Determine workable hours and approve all time submitted by employees.
  • Keep non-chargeable hours and overtime to a minimum.
  • Maintain good morale and handle basic grievances.
  • Study and determine the most efficient way to handle each job.
  • Use and transport materials and chemicals to avoid waste, loss, and hazards.
  • Control productivity of each crew member and utilize each tool and piece of equipment to its fullest.
  • Ensure there are sufficient and appropriate materials and equipment to do each job.
  • Be accountable for all tools, equipment, safety devices, materials, and supplies.
  • Store equipment and materials safely each night to avoid loss.
  • Know operating conditions of all equipment; recommend and schedule replacement of maintenance in time to avoid a breakdown.
  • Know proper and complete operation of each piece of equipment and ensure crew members use the right equipment for each job.
  • Ensure that all drivers possess the proper driving card and are approved to drive for the vehicle they operate.
  • Ensure that all employees have the proper certifications and qualifications for their positions and the equipment they operate.
  • Perform duties for storm work as needed.
