About The Position

The General Foreperson coordinates crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies in order to complete all jobs efficiently, correctly, and profitably. This role involves ensuring safe practices, managing equipment, training employees, and overseeing job completion. The General Foreperson is accountable for all tools, equipment, safety devices, materials, and supplies, and must ensure their safe storage. They must also understand the operating conditions of all equipment, recommend maintenance, and ensure crew members use the right equipment for each job. Additionally, they must ensure all drivers and employees have the proper certifications and qualifications. This position requires the ability to travel throughout the week to assigned crew locations and out of town for storm restoration work as needed. The company participates in E-Verify to confirm work authorization.

• Must have and maintain a Driver’s License and be able to safely drive a company vehicle.
• Must be able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPR.
• Must be able to effectively communicate with others.
• Must be able to travel out of town for storm restoration work when needed.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Must meet I-9 requirements.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

• At least 5 years’ prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
• Previous experience as a General Foreperson preferred.
• High School diploma or education equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies to complete jobs efficiently, correctly, and profitably.
• Follows and enforces safe practices and rules.
• Keeps utility company representatives informed of crew members and equipment.
• Establishes and monitors systems for proper maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and facilities.
• Ensures prompt dispatch of crews to job sites.
• Teaches all safety regulations to crew members and ensures 100% compliance.
• Instructs employees on safe operation of equipment and use of materials.
• Ensures first aid equipment is readily available.
• Assists in filling out accident reports promptly and completely and investigates causes of accidents.
• Hires, trains, and disciplines employees.
• Determines workable hours and approves all time submitted by employees, keeping non-chargeable hours and overtime to a minimum.
• Maintains good morale and handles basic grievances.
• Studies and determines the most efficient way to handle each job, considering location, season, crew availability, equipment, materials, etc.
• Uses and transports materials and chemicals to avoid waste, loss, and hazards.
• Controls the productivity of each crew member and utilizes tools and equipment to their fullest.
• Ensures sufficient and appropriate materials and equipment are available for each job.
• Is accountable for all tools, equipment, safety devices, materials, and supplies.
• Stores equipment and materials safely each night to avoid loss.
• Knows operating conditions of all equipment and recommends/schedules maintenance to avoid breakdowns.
• Ensures proper and complete operation of each piece of equipment and that crew members use the right equipment for each job.
• Ensures all drivers possess the proper driving card and are approved to drive their assigned vehicles.
• Ensures all employees have the proper certifications and qualifications for their positions and equipment.
• Performs duties for storm work as needed.
• Supervises the performance of individual employees and various crews.
