Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the maintenance and accuracy of all records and reports related to the performance of the crew’s operation
  • Receive and interpret tree trimming, removal, and chemical application orders initiated by supervisor or the Utility, involving an understanding of drawings and symbols representing types of line, voltages, and line equipment
  • Coordinate and monitor the daily progress of work on-site ensuring that tasks are completed on schedule and within budget
  • Communicate with project managers, supervisors, or clients to report progress, discuss issues, and ensure the project is on track
  • Ensure materials and equipment are available and used efficiently, minimizing downtime
  • Remain in contact with customers, property owners, general public, other contractors, and representatives of utilities and governmental agencies
  • Conduct safety training of assigned staff in accordance with workplace health and safety legislation, regulations and training procedures, conduct stands downs and tailgate training as applicable
  • Keep informed of new equipment specifications, standard practices and operating procedures
  • Investigate accident reports and damage claims, and promptly report near misses, incidents, workers' compensation claims, and return-to-work status for ongoing claims
  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s culture of safety and employee ownership
  • Comply with applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
  • Supervise line clearance crews and is responsible for the proper administration, communication, and enforcement of supervisory and economic work practices
  • Work in collaboration with Human Resources regarding employment for crew members including, but not limited to, hiring, discipline, separation of employment, leaves of absence, as well as policy compliance regarding employment for crew members
  • Promote sound relationships with employees on all personnel matters and exercise fair and reasonable judgment in management of employee conflicts, in cooperation with Human Resources
  • Train and mentor new employees or less experienced workers, ensuring they understand safety protocols and job responsibilities
  • Evaluate crew members' performance to determine opportunities for promotions and provide consistent performance reviews to support their advancement
  • Assign work to individual crew members and supervise crew in carrying out work according to good tree clearance practices
