About The Position

Western Forest Products is hiring for a General Foreman to join our Englewood Forest Operation team based in Woss, BC. The General Foreman is responsible for delivering Company harvest volumes in a manner that support the Company’s safety, sustainability, production, and financial goals. The General Foreman is a key field based management and execution role across all production phases and is responsible for the safe and efficient coordination of Company employees and phase contractors.

Requirements

  • 10 + years of experience in Forestry Operations in progressively responsible roles
  • Experience working across all phases of harvesting operations
  • High School diploma or higher

  • High level of integrity and professionalism
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and engage staff and hourly employees to perform at a higher standard
  • Expert knowledge of the full scope of coastal harvesting activities and all applicable safety and environmental regulations
  • Excellent working knowledge of applicable Forestry legislation, WorkSafe, and Employment Standards regulations applicable to the logging industry
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, problem solving and logical thinking skills
  • Understanding of financial reports, forecasting and budgeting
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently manages and coordinates woods operations to ensure timely and targeted delivery of the annual harvest as forecasted to maximize margin for the company
  • Provides supervision and coordination across all phases of Company harvesting operations (Roadbuilding, Falling, Yarding, Loading and Hauling), building quality requirements into each phase
  • Works closely with the Operations Planning team to ensure necessary permits and approvals are obtained and ensures robust plans are in place and are achievable to meet environmental standards and goals of the operation
  • Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, ensures all maintenance projects are coordinated to ensure minimal downtime
  • Ensures safety, quality, environmental, provincial and federal legislation compliance across all phases of the operation, holding staff and contractors accountable for adhering to Company procedures and operating standards
  • Hires, trains, coaches and manages the performance of hourly and salaried staff as well as contractors
  • Assists with the management of the USW relationship and other key relationships and contractual obligations
  • Maintaining positive relationships with contractors while providing oversight and management of those employed, including Road Construction and Maintenance Contractors within Company operations, Falling Phase Contractors, and Heli Operations
  • Work closely with the Operations Manager, Maintenance Manager, Operations Planner and Finance to ensure all operational decisions are based on sound financial analytics
  • Support the establishment and ongoing improvement of production phase metrics
  • Review costs and metrics and utilizes financial data to improve efficiency
  • Oversee inventories, ensuring optimal levels are maintained
  • Purchasing of materials required for harvesting operations
  • Make recommendations on capital investment opportunities and oversee project implementation in order to provide greatest return to the company
  • Recommend effective and innovative strategies for the financial well-being of the Operation
