About The Position

Granite Construction is seeking a General Foreman to supervise and coordinate the work of a crew of workers within a specific craft or trade. The General Foreman's main concern is ensuring that employees under their management do their jobs skillfully and efficiently while making sure assigned work is progressing in a timely manner. This role involves coordinating daily tasks, delegating responsibilities, recruiting and managing employees, ensuring adequate resources and staffing, emphasizing safety, developing budgets and quality standards, resolving conflicts, and reporting project status to supervisors.

Requirements

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
• Appropriate training and experience required
• Customer-service skills to communicate with inspectors and administration to develop a positive working relationship.
• Decision-making skills for selecting personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks and jobs to meet deadlines and budgets.
• Leadership skills for effectively delegating tasks to workers.
• Speaking skills for providing clear orders, explaining complex information to clients and construction workers and discussing technical details
• Technical skills for interpreting construction methods and technologies along with contracts and technical drawings.
• Time-management skills to meet deadlines and ensuring construction phases are completed on time so that the next phase can start.
• Writing skills for writing budgets, proposals and plans along with documenting work progress for clients and others involved.
• Work easily and skillfully with hands
• Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds
• See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors
• Reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools
• Bend, crouch, and work in small places
• Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating daily tasks according to priorities and plans, making changes when necessary due to weather, supply, delivery and personnel
• Delegating individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractors
• Recruiting, hiring, training, managing and mentoring employees and contractors
• Providing adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices and safety needs
• Emphasizing safe use of tools, machinery and equipment while providing training on safety gear, helmets and procedures
• Developing and managing project budgets and quality standards for all sites
• Resolving conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably
• Regularly reporting project status to supervisors, site engineers and other officials
