About The Position

Walden University is seeking Adjunct Faculty to teach undergraduate courses in English, Humanities, and History within the School of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Studies. This role involves providing online instruction in asynchronous, course-based (6-week terms) and potentially competency-based modalities. The university is committed to social change, inclusive teaching, and supporting adult learners from diverse backgrounds. Contributing Faculty are expected to manage their time effectively, engage with students regularly, assess work, and establish a supportive virtual classroom environment. New faculty receive comprehensive training on online teaching techniques, the Learning Management System (LMS), university policies, and academic integrity. A peer mentor is provided for new faculty.

Requirements

• Master's degree in the discipline being taught or a closely related field required.
• Advanced degrees and scholarship
• Commitment to working with students

Nice To Haves

• Three or more years of postsecondary teaching experience preferred.
• Experience teaching adult learners, particularly in a community college setting, strongly preferred; however, extensive secondary (7-12) teaching experience will also be considered
• Experience teaching in an online or distance-learning environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide Course instruction as assigned
• Engage in classrooms at least 5 days a week.
• Facilitate and engage in discussion boards.
• Assess student work and provide substantive feedback in a timely fashion.
• Be available to students via video chat or phone as needed.
• Establish an accessible and supportive virtual classroom environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors sharing experience and observations.
