About The Position

The Laurel School District is seeking qualified applicants for a full time General Education Aide at Laurel Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a Level III position, with a current starting wage of $17.00 per hour. Responsible for performing duties that help staff, teachers and students to provide an educational and social-focused working environment. Duties include helping out in classrooms, in the office, in the lunchroom, at recess and throughout the building/district as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of at least two years of study at an institute of higher education; obtain an associate or higher degree or meet a rigorous standard of quality; and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment the knowledge of and ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing, and math.
  • Knowledge of general concepts of child growth, development, and behavior characteristics.
  • Knowledge of public education goals and objectives.
  • Assume responsibility for assisting in supervision of students.
  • Perform routine records keeping, clerical work and light typing.
  • Learn and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings.
  • Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm, positive, and receptive attitude toward all children.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, parents, and general public.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and effectively manage time and responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.

Responsibilities

  • Works in varying capacities in accordance with assigned roles.
  • Assists instructional personnel with preparation of learning materials and activities.
  • Assists students individually or in small groups to deliver or reinforce lessons and monitor study activities.
  • Monitors and assists students in varied locations; maintains standards of behavior and utilizes established disciplinary policies when necessary.
  • Performs a variety of general clerical duties for instructional and non-instructional staff, such as filing, typing, duplication/distribution of materials, supply inventory and assembling resource materials.
  • Assists in maintaining a variety of reports and records.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment.
  • Assists in scoring tests; computing and recording grades.
  • Reports disciplinary concerns to appropriate staff in accordance with current policy/procedure.
  • Familiarity with materials and equipment used within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
  • Attends relevant meetings and trainings as assigned.
  • Assists and guides all students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
  • Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
  • Assists all students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
  • Assists with fostering independence, socialization, and self-esteem for all students.
