About The Position

The General Duties (Cleaner) is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment throughout the food distribution warehouse. This role supports food safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency by ensuring all warehouse areas, equipment, and common spaces meet company sanitation standards.

Requirements

  • Previous cleaning or janitorial experience; warehouse or food facility experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work in cold environments (coolers and freezers).
  • Knowledge of sanitation procedures and safe chemical handling practices.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing repetitive physical tasks.
  • Awareness of basic food safety standards and practices.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, follow schedules, and work independently.
  • Candidates must be legally able to work in Canada at this time.
  • final candidates for this position may be required to undergo a confidential pre-employment background check which may include but not be limited to criminal, and/or credit testing.

  • WHMIS certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize warehouse floors, walls, loading docks, aisles, storage areas, and other designated workspaces.
  • Empty garbage, recycling, and organic waste bins; replace liners and ensure proper waste disposal.
  • Clean and maintain lunchrooms, washrooms, offices, and other common areas.
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces to maintain hygiene and prevent cross-contamination.
  • Remove pallet debris, dust accumulation, and keep racking and warehouse fixtures clean and organized.
  • Safely operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, sweepers, mops, washers, and other sanitation tools.
  • Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and packaging materials, and notify the supervisor when replenishment is required.
  • Handle and use cleaning chemicals safely in accordance with WHMIS and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
  • Follow all HACCP, CFIA, and company food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Complete required sanitation records and cleaning checklists accurately and on schedule.
  • Report spills, maintenance concerns, equipment issues, or potential food safety risks promptly.
  • Assist in maintaining audit readiness by ensuring sanitation standards and documentation are consistently met.
  • Comply with all workplace health and safety policies, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Keep emergency exits, walkways, and safety routes clear at all times.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist the Production team with general duties during periods of lower cleaning activity or as operational needs require.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support warehouse and production operations.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
