About The Position

The General Dentist will provide comprehensive dental care to veterans at the Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS) and its associated clinics. This role involves performing a wide range of dental procedures, from examinations and diagnosis to complex treatments and minor surgeries. The dentist will also be responsible for patient education, collaborating with other healthcare professionals, and adhering to VA policies and procedures. Coverage may be needed across multiple clinic locations.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.
  • Current and active dental licensure in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.
  • Credentialing and privileging per VHA Handbook 1100.19 prior to start.
  • Sufficient clinical experience to provide comprehensive general dental care per VA Dentist qualification standards.
  • Proficiency in comprehensive dental examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Experience with restorative, prosthetic, endodontic, surgical, and preventive dental procedures.
  • Ability to perform minimal sedation/anxiolysis (oral only, single agent).
  • Knowledge of oral pathology, oral medicine, and temporomandibular disorder management.
  • Strong communication and patient-centered care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and conditions of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area.
  • Provide treatment of caries, defective restorations, traumatic injuries, and occlusal therapy.
  • Perform prosthetic replacement of missing dentition (fixed and removable) and single implant restorations.
  • Provide non-surgical endodontic therapy, gingivectomy/gingivoplasty, and simple and surgical extractions.
  • Perform socket preservation, alveoplasty, and minor pre-prosthetic surgery (soft and hard tissue).
  • Provide emergency dental treatment and non-surgical management of temporomandibular disorders.
  • Perform soft tissue intra-oral biopsy (less than 1 cm) and repair of minor intra-oral lacerations.
  • Provide localized delivery of chemotherapeutic agents and complete occlusal adjustment.
  • Collaborate with other health care professionals and comply with all OVAHCS policies, HIPAA, and VA mandatory training requirements.
  • Travel to dental outpatient clinics (Lake Baldwin, Viera, Daytona Beach) when coverage is needed.
