About The Position

The General Counsel serves as a strategic member of the executive leadership team and reports directly to the President & CEO. This executive-level role is responsible for overseeing all legal, regulatory, and compliance matters across the organization, with a focus on risk mitigation, corporate governance, and alignment with healthcare industry requirements. As a trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Board, the General Counsel ensures legal strategy is aligned with business objectives, while safeguarding the organization through sound governance, compliance, and regulatory oversight. Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active state bar license in good standing
  • Minimum of five (5) years of legal experience, including experience in the hospice services industry required
  • Must be able to travel, at times without notice
  • Must be flexible in work hours
  • Must be available to meet minimal travel expectations
  • Must be flexible in work hours
  • Demonstrated experience with: Corporate transactions, including joint ventures and LLC structures
  • Healthcare regulatory and compliance matters
  • Litigation management and outside counsel oversight
  • Mergers & acquisitions and organizational expansion

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a legal advisor to executive leadership and the Board of Directors
  • Provide strategic guidance on healthcare regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and risk management
  • Lead and oversee legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and expansion initiatives
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and corporate documents
  • Partner with operations, clinical, and HR leadership to integrate legal considerations into business decisions
  • Oversee litigation strategy and manage outside counsel across all legal matters
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, privacy laws, and applicable state and federal requirements
  • Support corporate filings, board materials, and internal governance documentation
  • Advise on employment, labor relations, and organizational risk issues
  • Supervise legal staff and external legal resources
  • Identify and escalate legal risks and strategic considerations to executive leadership
  • Other duties as assigned
