About The Position

Tripleseat is the leading web-based event management and sales platform designed for restaurants, hotels, and unique venues, aiming to simplify and streamline the event planning process. As a fast-growing SaaS company, Tripleseat is seeking its first dedicated legal executive, a General Counsel, to build the legal function from the ground up. This role involves partnering closely with the CEO and leadership team on strategic decisions, offering genuine ownership and significant impact at a company with substantial momentum.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of legal experience, with a combination of law firm and in-house roles preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise negotiating and managing complex enterprise commercial contracts, including SaaS agreements, MSAs, and data processing agreements
  • Deep knowledge of privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable regulations, with experience advising product and engineering teams
  • Experience handling employment law matters, including investigations, separation agreements, and day-to-day HR legal support
  • Familiarity with board governance, equity management, and investor or sponsor reporting requirements
  • Hands-on experience with M&A transactions, including due diligence, deal execution, and a working understanding of exit processes
  • Ability to move quickly and make sound decisions with limited resources, building legal infrastructure thoughtfully and efficiently
  • Strong communicator who translates complex legal issues into clear, practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders
  • Track record of working cross-functionally and serving as a trusted partner to business teams, not just a gatekeeper
  • Proactive approach to identifying legal risks and surfacing them early, before they become problems
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and energized by the opportunity to define and build a function
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing required

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the company's primary legal advisor, providing strategic counsel to the CEO, executive team, and board on business, legal, and governance matters
  • Lead and manage all enterprise commercial contracting, including negotiation and execution of customer, vendor, and partner agreements
  • Own the company's privacy, data, and product counseling function, including advising on legal issues related to AI, data use, customer terms, vendor terms and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee employment law matters, workplace investigations, and HR legal support across the organization
  • Support board governance, investor relations, and sponsor-related legal needs, including preparation and management of board materials and equity matters
  • Drive M&A, strategic transactions, and exit readiness efforts, including due diligence, deal structuring, and integration support
  • Build and manage relationships with outside counsel, optimizing for quality and cost-efficiency
  • Develop and maintain scalable legal policies, processes, and templates that support company growth
  • Open to leveraging AI-enabled tools and modern legal technology to improve efficiency, scalability, and decision-making within the legal function.
