About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, working in a counter-clockwise direction around the room to clean surfaces above shoulder height, such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down sinks, toilet seats, the outside of toilet bowls, and the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop.
Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead or vacuum cleaner, working from the back of the room towards the door and ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, and removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, mentally reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
Engage in customer relations and service by knocking lightly before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring customers to someone who can assist, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
