About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves performing various tasks related to the area of assignment to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, working in a counter-clockwise direction around the room to clean surfaces above shoulder height.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces using a germicidal solution, working in a counter-clockwise direction around the room to clean ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down sinks, toilets, and checking/refilling soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
  • Perform floor dusting or vacuuming using a treated dust mophead or vacuum cleaner, working from the back of the room towards the door.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash, spot cleaning sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Maintain public common areas by dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and checking for cobwebs/doing high dusting of window areas.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and policing outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by knocking lightly on doors before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously, reporting broken or out-of-order items, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
