About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
  • Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs force, while performing cleaning duties.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas and drapes.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at the waist, knees, and neck throughout the shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas or retrieving supplies.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment, using tools, wiping surfaces, and using cleaning equipment.
  • Overhead reaching required throughout the shift.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination for operating equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, working in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans, using a germicidal solution.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Check and refill soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, removing the liner and wiping the can if liquid is present, then placing a clean liner.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead, working in an "S" stroke pattern to catch dust. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms, stopping just inside the door. Clean the mophead with a counter brush and dispose of dust.
  • When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts.
  • Spot clean spills on sidewalks, remove gum with a scraper, wipe benches and vending machines, wipe lower window ledges, and dust for dust and cobwebs.
  • Clean public area glass as necessary and police the parking lot for trash.
  • Dust mop and spot mop main hallways in public common areas.
  • Clean public area glass several times during the day.
  • Clean planters inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste.
  • Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • In the food court, clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables, placing chairs back under tables.
  • Spot clean spills in the food court and empty and clean trash cans.
  • Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use.
  • Police outside eating areas in the food court.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning of hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and cheerful manner, answering questions courteously or referring them to someone who can assist.
  • Report anything broken or out of order to the supervisor.
  • Work quietly and speak quietly, trying to reduce or eliminate noise.
  • Stay within the assigned work area unless requested to move by a supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance while on the job.
  • Report to the supervisor if the work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Be courteous at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
