About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash, pushing/pulling using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas and drapes, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout the shift, kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas and retrieving supplies from lower shelves, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment, and overhead reaching required throughout the shift.
  • Sight: in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards. Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and clean the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and place a clean liner in the trash can.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an 'S' stroke, ensuring to dust under furniture and in restrooms. Vacuum floors starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring to get under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs in window areas at least twice a week.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean for spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors starting from the back of the room, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly on doors before entering if occupied. Be friendly and cheerful to customers, answer questions courteously or refer them to someone who can. Report anything broken or out of order to the supervisor. Work quietly and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
