About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception, hand-eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges, working in a counter-clockwise direction around the room.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down bathrooms using a germicidal solution, including the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove the liner, wipe the trash can, and place a new liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean the mophead and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering all furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas multiple times a day, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass surfaces, clean planters (inside and out), check for cobwebs and high dust window areas at least twice a week, and check corners and edges for debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to a supervisor, work and speak quietly, stay in the assigned work area, maintain a clean and neat personal appearance, report incomplete work to a supervisor, and always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
