About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination for operating equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room and dusting surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces using a germicidal solution, working counter-clockwise around the room and sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, trash cans).
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down in the following order: above and below the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Clean and check soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, removing and replacing liners if liquid is present, and wiping down the trash can.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead, starting at the back of the room and using an “S” stroke. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms, stopping just inside the door. Clean mopheads by gently brushing downward into the service cart. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work toward the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways. Ensure glass is cleaned several times a day, planters are cleaned inside and out, and check for cobwebs/high dust window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and other foreign debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors as backing out of the room.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
  • Practice good customer relations and service by knocking lightly before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring them to someone who can, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working and speaking quietly, reducing or eliminating noise, staying in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
