About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception, hand-eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights, curtain tips, vents, ledges) in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans) in a counter-clockwise direction. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, clean and sanitize sinks, toilets (inside and out), and surrounding areas. Check and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and place clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are covered. Clean mophead with a counter brush. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering areas under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste. Perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and sanitize the floor, mopping under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are performed daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and courteous to customers, answer questions helpfully, or refer them to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work quietly, speak quietly, and try to reduce noise. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing).
