About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
  • Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs of force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout the shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas or retrieving supplies.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment, using tools, cleaning surfaces, and using cleaning equipment.
  • Overhead reaching required throughout the shift.
  • Adequate sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination for equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and the inside of toilet bowls using a Johnnie Mop. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering areas under furniture.
  • Grounds Care: Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass surfaces multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out. Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize floors starting from the back of the room, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily Tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are performed daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and courteous, answer questions helpfully or refer to someone who can, report broken items to the supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned area, maintain a neat appearance, and report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping/waxing, extraction, bonneting), auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
