About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, or trash, pushing/pulling using both hands and arms with 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for performing cleaning tasks, maintaining safety standards, and operating equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls. Clean the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace with a clean liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring dust is captured on the leading edge and under furniture. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass several times a day. Clean planters inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste. Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room when sanitizing the floor, mopping under furniture and behind doors as you back out.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
