About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, overhead reaching, and having adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and place clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are covered. Clean mop heads with a counter brush. When vacuuming, work from the back of the room towards the door, covering all furniture areas.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning sidewalk spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass several times a day. Clean planters inside and out. Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Remove accumulated dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, sanitize floors starting from the back of the room, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are performed daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly on occupied doors before entering. Be friendly and cheerful to customers, answer questions courteously, or refer them to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly, reducing noise. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
