About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Sight: Required for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination for equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights, curtain tips, vents, ledges) in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans) in a counter-clockwise direction. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down bathroom surfaces (above and below sink, toilet seat, outside of toilet bowl) with a germicidal solution. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove and replace the liner, and wipe down the trash can. Place a clean liner in the trash can.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean the mophead and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering all furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out. Perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors as you back out.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are performed daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to a supervisor. Report broken or out-of-order items. Work and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report incomplete work assignments to the supervisor. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
