About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash, pushing/pulling using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift, kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces, using cleaning equipment, overhead reaching required throughout shift, sight in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, requiring depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height (lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges) in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trashcans) in a counter-clockwise direction. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and the inside of toilet bowls using a Johnnie Mop. Clean and check soap and paper dispensers, refilling as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and place clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using the “S” stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean mophead with a counter brush. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, ensuring all furniture is covered.
  • Grounds care: Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans. Police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts. Spot clean spills on sidewalks, remove gum, wipe benches and vending machines, wipe lower window ledges, high dust for dust and cobwebs, clean public area glass as necessary, and police parking lots for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass several times a day. Clean planters inside and out. Check for cobwebs and high dust window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work quietly and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
