About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and operating equipment.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans, using a germicidal solution.
Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows using the proper solution.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, including sinks, toilets (inside and out), and refilling soap and paper dispensers.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using the appropriate technique, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care by emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and high dusting window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, and removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door.
Conduct self-inspections after cleaning to ensure all steps are completed and furniture is properly placed.
Perform daily cleaning of hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including high dusting.
Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to the appropriate person.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction, auto scrubbing, buffing) and carpet care.
