About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, clean and sanitize sinks, toilets (inside and out, paying attention to the rim), soap dispensers, and paper dispensers. Refill dispensers as needed.
Empty Trash Cans: Remove and replace liners, wiping down cans if they contain liquid.
Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are covered. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering all areas under furniture.
Grounds care: Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass, planters (inside and out), and perform high dusting for cobwebs in window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
Floor Sanitizing: Using a proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
Daily Tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are performed daily.
Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to a supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned work area, maintain a neat appearance, report incomplete work to a supervisor, and always be courteous.
Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned or directed, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
