About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down the sink, toilet exterior and interior, and checking/refilling soap and paper dispensers.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using the appropriate technique, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and policing outside eating areas.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Visually inspect cleaned areas after completion, checking furniture placement and making corrections as needed.
Perform daily cleaning tasks for halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including spotting and high dusting.
Engage in customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring customers to the appropriate person, reporting broken or out-of-order items, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
