About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs of equipment, supplies, or trash.
  • Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs of force.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to bend/twist/balance at the waist, knees, and neck throughout the shift.
  • Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas or retrieving supplies.
  • Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment, using tools, cleaning surfaces, and using cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout the shift.
  • Adequate sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination for equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls with a germicidal solution. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove the liner, wipe the can, and place a clean liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean the mop head and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering all furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass surfaces multiple times a day. Clean planters inside and out. Check for cobwebs and high dust window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize floors starting from the back of the room, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks include cleaning hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, as well as high dusting.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and courteous to customers, answer questions helpfully, or refer them to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly, reducing noise. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Loud talking and laughing are unacceptable. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
