About The Position

The General Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires excellent customer relations and service skills, reporting any issues to a supervisor, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.

Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, or trash.
Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout the shift.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger while operating equipment and cleaning surfaces.
Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout the shift.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction and cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows.
Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, including sinks, toilets (inside and out), and dispensers, refilling as needed.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using the "S" stroke method, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and performing high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, and clean trash cans.
Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays.
Police outside eating areas in the food court.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, cleaning under furniture and behind doors.
Visually inspect and ensure furniture placement is correct after cleaning.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to the appropriate person.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and auto scrubbing and buffing floors.
